Our Top Reasons to Visit Megeve

The beautiful picture postcard location of Megeve, situated in the south-east of France near the Italian & Swiss borders and became popular in the 1920’s as a luxury ski resort. Retaining the old fashioned and traditional charm whilst offering its high end and glamourous position, this stunning village is completely worthy of its hidden gem status. If luxury, sophistication and fantastic food are your idea of paradise then Megeve may be the ultimate ski destination for you!

We’ve compiled a list of reasons why we think Megeve is a wonderful ski resort for all to visit.

It’s the 3rd Largest Ski Area in France

Sitting at the heart of the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area, Megeve stretches over 445km and contains 220 slopes, 107 ski lifts and 5 incredible snow parks as well as 5 nursery parks for beginner skiers.

The area is a great place for all skiing abilities whether you’re brand new to the slopes or an advanced snow sport pro!

The Magical Village Centre

Unlike other larger ski resorts in the European Alps, Megeve has historically shunned the party scene and keeps to the quiet and peaceful side of life. There is lots of space on the glorious pistes around you and you’ll never need to worry about the town being packed to the prim.

The charming atmosphere of the village’s centre is something to behold. It’s car-free and has plenty to see and do. Every year, local artists are commissioned to decorate a gigantic Christmas tree in the centre. Locals also take tourists for scenic rides on horse-drawn carriage.

Its Natural Beauty

Rather than having completely mapped out slopes, Megeve boasts ski slopes with far more intimidating and challenging experiences. You’ll be going past stunning rock formations as well as fairytale-like woodlands with trees bending under the weight of freshly fallen snow.

High Altitude Dining

Megeve features some truly amazing high altitude Michelin-star restaurants that not only offer some of the most delicious cuisine but also adds in the experience of 360 degree views of the mountains surrounding you. Some of the highly esteemed restaurants include Le 1920, Flocon de Sel and L’Alpette.

It Offers Incredible 5* Luxury

Balancing the Alpine charm with contemporary design, Megeve features a range of major French designer shopping including Hermes and Faconnable as well as other retail opportunities to suit every taste.

There’s Plenty of Activities for Non-Skiers

There are a wide range of off-hill options for any non-skiers in your party and retain the fun and excitement of the Alps. Ice skating, tennis, climbing and swimming as well as the previously mentioned shopping opportunities can all be on your agenda if skiing isn’t your plan for the day. The casino and the famous Cinq Rues Jazz Bar are popular late night attractions for the area.

Some Fantastic Events Exclusive to the Area

Megeve have a long standing history with the equestrian industry and hold annual events including the Polo Masters Cup which sees the horses and riders play on the snow and ice as well as the International Jumping Competition. Winter Golf is also a major event in Megeve and is home to the annual Snow Golf Cup. National and international championships for figure skating and ice hockey at the Palais des Sports Stadium.

The Magnificent Chalets

As a picture postcard village it only makes sense for the luxury ski properties in Megeve to be just as picturesque. You can enjoy all the creature comforts of a luxurious chalet with modern necessities whilst being mere steps away from the slopes!

Our experienced and dedicated luxury ski chalet experts are passionate about finding you your perfect property in the European Alps.

Top Alternative Activities for Non-Skiers in the European Alps

So, you’ve booked your dream stay in the European Alps and can’t wait to hit the slopes and zoom down on your skis to your heart’s content. However…there are some members of your party who don’t ski. It can be a stressful thought to think of a series of activities and things to do to keep non-skiers occupied and enjoying themselves.

Don’t worry! There is so much to do to keep even the most discerning traveler entertained, especially with our multi award-winning ski consultants knowledge and our bespoke concierge service!

Read on to find out just a small selection of some fantastic opportunities for skiers and non-skiers alike!

Dog Sledging

Explore the mountains and plough through fresh powdery snow with a team of incredible (and super cute!) Alaskan huskies. Whether you prefer to wrap up warm in a cosy blanket snuggled up to a loved one on a sled or take control and stand up to drive and mush your powerful pups through the Alpine countryside; dog sledging is a fantastic experience for all ages and there’s no experience necessary!

Horse Drawn Carriage

Feel like you’re living in a fairytale wonderland as you snuggle down under a cosy rug and ride through the beautiful snowy countryside of St Moritz on a romantic horse-drawn carriage. This is the perfect way to spend quality time with your significant other, taking in the awe-inspiring views of the mountains and the alpine scenery. Stay cuddled up and warm whilst listening to the gentle tap of the majestic horses’ hooves in the snow.

Snow Mobiling

Looking for something a little more fast paced? Discover a different side to the mountains by exploring the terrain via snow mobile. Take advantage of the emptying evening slopes and open space in Morzine by taking a tour at dusk to adventure into the valley. This is a great activity to do with friends, family or even by yourself!

Snow Shoeing

Not the most stylish of ski wear on the slopes but this is a fun and active way to explore the mountains! Simply strap on two tennis racket-like shoes and walk, run or jump around the snow for as long as you want! You can book an off-piste nature tour or just follow the signs and make snowy trails as you adventure around the white, powdery countryside.

Helicopter Ride

One of the most incredible activities to experience and enjoy whether you are a skier or not! Take in the sensational birds’ eye view of the snow-capped mountains, glaciers and alpine forests as you fly elegantly across the Alps. For those a little more adventurous or wanting to celebrate a special occasion, why not stop off on top of a mountain for a bespoke luxury lunch on a table carved from the fresh snow? We highly recommend a helicopter ride in Verbier, Switzerland.

Spa Day

And now…relax! Take a break from outdoor activities and spend a well-earned lazy day in the spa. The perfect cure to relieve all the stress from everyday life, heal sore muscles or just indulge in a fabulous pampering session. The French and Swiss Alps have some of the best spas and wellness areas in the world. Treat yourself to a range of luxury treatments, experience a traditional Turkish hammam and lounge in the Jacuzzi for a day of pure relaxation. One of our favourite spas is the La Prairie spa in Le K2 5* hotel in Courchevel.

At Elegant Address Ski, we are dedicated to finding your perfect luxury ski chalet to create your dream ski holiday experience. We’re able to organise and book a large range of incredible activities to make sure every member of your party has the most amazing time in the mountains. Christmas in the European Alps

Where better to spend Christmas than in a snowy ski resort in Europe? Imagine spending your Christmas holidays enjoying the fantastic festive atmosphere whether you’re looking for family friendly fun, sophisticated glamour or an exciting party; the European Alps has something for everyone.

Lech – Austrian Alps

As one of the most exclusive resorts in the European Alps, Lech remains true to its farming town origins despite its international reputation, with incredibly famous visitors including Princess Diana and the Dutch royal family. The modest altitude of 1,450 metres above sea level allow the resort to receive almost twice as much snow as some the French resorts that are more well-known. The construction of the Auenfeldjet gondola in 2013 means that visitors can now use over 180km of ski slopes that include neighbouring resorts such as Zurs and Warth-Schroken. There are a range of ungroomed terrain with some great challenging trails for skiers to try. For apres-ski, you can party into the early hours in some sensational bars.

Courchevel – French Alps

Courchevel 1850 is the highest of the villages and by far the biggest resort. Here you will find the main lift hub. For non-skiers or for when you want a break from the slopes, Courchevel has an Aquamotion centre based in Moriond with an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, saunas, steam rooms, a hot tub, surfing and a climbing wall for all kinds of entertainment and relaxation.
